Other alternatives to smoking and other ways to quit.
Many people I know, including myself, have been smoking for years. Just like with anything else, to be able to quit, you have to want to quit. Therein lies the problem for most of us, and why the majority of smokers continue killing themselves with these harmful chemicals. I know it's hard for the non-smokers of the world to believe this, but most people smoke because they enjoy it. I am not saying that there aren't people out there who want to quit and can't because they are just addicted, but there are those of us who simply like lighting up and actually enjoying a smoke.
Well now what if you could still smoke and not have the toxic carcinogens involved. Hmmmm, sounds interesting, eh. Well now you can with electronic cigarettes. What's so irritating to me is that the FDA, and now it seems some other institutions, have done studies and based on these results are trying to ban these devices. I have to wonder what is going on in the world when I see and hear things such as this. According to their studies,"trace amounts" of carcinogens and a chemical found in anti-freeze were found in some samples, which is causing a stir. The thing is, trace amounts of anything is not going to kill you. Furthermore, they only found these in a minimal number of samples, not in all of them.
So let's see. We have a product that can give people the feeling of smoking, but without the over 4000 harmful carcinogens in regular cigarettes, and without the second hand smoke, but they want to ban these? Tobacco cigarettes have been killing people for years, but they remain legal and are sold everywhere. How can these electronic cigarettes not be a good thing?
Another point people against these bring up is that they contain nicotine, which is the thing that gets people addicted to cigarettes. Well guess what? If they had bothered to do any research they could have found very easily that you can actually order them WITHOUT ANY NICOTINE! So now what's the excuse?
It really befuddles and bedazzles me how a product that can possibly save millions of lives and help people live longer could be so scorned by an agency that is supposedly supposed to be protecting us from harmful products. Unbelievable.
Anyway, just had to get that out of the way, but I also wanted to let you know about other things that could possibly help you kick the habit if that is what you would like to do. For more info on these, feel free to check out the Healthy Fellow blog. These are just some tips they recommend if you want to try and quit smoking for good.
First of all, you can try hypnosis, which has proven successful 40 to 80 percent of the time. That is a wide range, but it does show that this method could be a very good one.
Second they suggest, interestingly enough, self massage of your ears and hand.
Thirdly is something called mindfulness meditiation.
They all seem to have produced pretty good results, so if this interests you please head over to the blog now at Healthy Fellow and get the whole story on all of these methods. There is also many other health related topics there, so check it out as soon as you can if you are have an interest in the health field.
